GOOD GOVERNANCE
AFRICAN STYLE
FreeAfrica (March 6, 2004)
It is good to know that contemporary African
leaders are committed to good governance – lest we forget
the crimes against humanity, from Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge leader
Pol Pot to Zimbabwe’s Zanu PF leader Robert Mugabe.
But what is the substance and reality of good governance
African style – as defined by the actions of African leaders?
Is it not true that many African leaders claim to
be guilt-free of the Mugabe human rights violations and war crimes,
even though they aided and abetted such atrocities by their notorious
‘diplomatic’ black-mail against the European Union –
when they insisted that they would not attend an SADC/EU Summit
unless their protégé, Robert Mugabe, was treated as
an Honourable Man? What manner of men, and what manner of honour
is that?
Assuming that African Opposition political leaders
are still out there – alive and well, and active in a manner
that is well disposed to ponder such imponderable atrocious ‘good
governance African style’ phenomenon, will they please stand
up and be counted on the right side of African history…

Since silence means consent, and an ignominious monument
to folly and atrocities in this instance; therefore, we at Free
Africa invite African leaders, human rights activists, human rights
enthusiasts and all men and women of good conscience to rise to
the challenges of such atrocious monument to infamy.
History, and the victims of such apparent supreme
betrayal of the democratic process, are watching and waiting, watching
and waiting for the consciences of good men and good women to stir
up the winds of change for a better day…
Please do not forget that that better day cannot
come about (for the millions of victims of the likes of Pol Pot,
Robert Mugabe and their friends in high places) unless your good
conscience stirs up the winds of change…by supporting our
Free Africa Stir-Up-the-Winds campaign for
justice for the victims.
